Warning: Political Rant Follows
Imagine a world where every single American has health care. This health care would not only be available to each person, but also run by our friend, the government. In order to achieve this absolutely wonderful task we will tax the doctors who have worked very hard to attain that profession and then we'll kick them while they're down. You see, doctors will be forced (by the government) to see patients (who will come to their offices in droves), and the government will pay them little to nothing for their services. Just like Medicare and Medicaid payments are today. So, the doctors will have to work double or even triple time to make sure that they can keep food on the table for their own children. Between paying off medical school loans, donating a huge chunk of their salaries to malpractice insurance, and the tax raises, these doctors will be rewarded handsomely for their 8 years of schooling and sacrifice. That is, if you call extra hours, the government as your boss, and a huge dent in your paycheck a reward. American citizens will be fleeing in droves to see just how they too, can earn the status of Doctor. After all, the perks are appealing aren't they?

Yeah, I wish that more people could see what "national healthcare" would really be. I hate it when they don't realize my husband works 7 days a week and long hours before they criticize.
I know. I know. This is SO frustrating! People in other countries who have national healthcare don't seem so thrilled that, in addition to the things you described, it takes them forever to get into their doctors. Many of the people from other countries who have national healthcare wish that they didn't. Also... Can't people see the things that the government has already made a mess of...and not give them control of yet another thing, and something so important as our healthcare???

You are right. One of the main reasons that people suffer through 8 or more years of medical school and residency is the promise of making a good living after they get out. If the incentive is taken away, few people will go into medicine---and sick people will be flying to India to get health care!!
